Problem: You installed Safari Plugins but they don’t appear in GarageBand.
Step 1: Quit GarageBand
Make sure GarageBand is completely closed before making any changes.
Step 2: Locate the Audio Units Cache
Open Finder.
Navigate to the Audio Units cache folder:
~/Library/Caches/AudioUnitCache/(The
~represents your home directory.)
Step 3: Delete Cache Files
Inside the
AudioUnitCachefolder, delete all files. These are typically named like
com.apple.audiounits.cache.
This clears GarageBand’s cached plugin information and forces a full rescan on next launch.
Step 4: Reset Audio Units Preferences (Optional)
Navigate to:
~/Library/Preferences/Find the file
com.apple.audio.info.plist.Delete this file to fully reset Audio Units configuration.
Step 5: Reopen GarageBand
Launch GarageBand.
The program will automatically rescan all Audio Units plugins, including Safari Plugins.
Important Notes:
If the Library folder is hidden, press Command + Shift + . (period) in Finder, or select Go → Go to Folder and enter
~/Library.After clearing the cache, GarageBand may take longer than usual to start because it rescans all plugins.
Safari Plugins appear as AU format in GarageBand; ensure you installed the AU plugin using the Safari Plugins installer.
